Most people I know who are career-passionate about physical health are that passionate because they've been struggling with health problems their whole lives. I'm starting to think the same thing is going on with mental health professionals.

Which sort of makes me trust them less? Like how can I trust someone else to help solve me if they don't even know how to solve themselves, who they've presumably spent waaay more time on.

At least, in best case they know what they are talking about.

You don’t have to be - mentally unhealthy therapists are abundant. However, the good therapists are truly experts both in terms of being a “teacher” and having first hand experience. You should be skeptical of each therapist, but not untrusting of therapy as a profession.

My therapist is extraordinary. I found him after 3 mediocre ones (that were helpful in their own ways but not a breakthrough like this one). He had gone through immense trauma growing up but grew through it. I plan on a similar path - using my compassion gained through suffering
