I'm on board the 'cultural christian' idea. For most people, 'Christian' is a basic community identifier and isn't that strongly tied to actual theological/spiritual beliefs.

I'm just surprised that when it comes to the highest-stakes issue in a Christian's life -- the salvation of their soul -- they're confused about whether their soul goes to Heaven or gets put back in another body.

I'm mixed on this. On one hand yes, it seems like a core doctrine, but on the other hand a lot of really essential things around the soul are often discarded - like going to hell, or being sinful, or even what it takes to go to heaven at all.
