I'm confused about UBI, most smart people I know think it's not that feasible/helpful. I can't help but suspect people like Musk or Yang are playing some other game in promoting it.

Meme driven policy - maybe even if the plans fail on basic math, it will have been worth it to get a lot more people talking about #UBI and potentially coming up with better plans?

Maybe? I like the idea of people wanting to try something totally new and revolutionary, but I'm worried about like... everything that usually happens when people get excited about something without paying attention to the math.
I suppose I cut Yang some slack for not having it all figured out in advance of actually getting the democratic nomination. If he fails to get the nomination, then the extra planning time wasn't worth it; he should have instead spent his time working on getting the nomination.

The thing is I don't think it's hard to figure out a better plan, the bar he missed was pretty low. This seems more understandable if the plan is designed for being marketable and he knows it's bad but it's most likely to get him elected.
