I mean, at that point are you even going to be able to legally defend your independence in court. It would be too easy for someone else to claim the chip you do it and either force a removal or institutionalize you. *If you committed a heinous crime, etc*

If it's to fix pedophiles or addicts, then I assume there ought to be an exception. Of course any society that legalizes any of this tech will swiftly cease to be human, so it doesn't really matter.

The earliest versions of the chip would probably be the ones that needed heaviest regulation but wouldn’t have it. Then only criminals would have access to the then illegal mature versions. ....and they would have a strong desire to make them selves more criminal-ly?
