Sometimes google fails me. Art weirdos: I wanna make an art piece item out of probably clay? I want it to be very detailed and easily manipulable when forming, but also dry lightweight and not easily broken. Is clay the thing I want to use here? Are there other options?
Cast resin? I know basics around creating molds out of clay, but I'm curious about how resin works with that. Isn't it particularly heavy? Is it typically transparent?

Depends on size, resin type, fillers, construction, etc. The simplest version would be a solid resin cast with no filler or reinforcement. I'd expect that to be of similar density to polymer clay, maybe somewhat heavier, with details dependent on the clay.

I'm actually having trouble finding a good reference for polymer clay density. For the cast resin, you can add lightweight fillers to reduce density, if that's important. (Similar in concept to Bondo and such.)
