Sometimes google fails me.
Art weirdos: I wanna make an art piece item out of probably clay? I want it to be very detailed and easily manipulable when forming, but also dry lightweight and not easily broken. Is clay the thing I want to use here? Are there other options?

I'm also open to things that aren't clay, but I have super low knowledge of them. Foam sculpting? Leather? Hot glue? Latex molds?

Approx what size / shape / weight are you wanting to end up with?
Does it need to be wearable, bendable, paintable, or any other features & constraints?

It's a mask; doesn't have to be durable for stuff like heavy partying, but ideally not incredibly uncomfortable or weighty. Should cover most of the face and extend a few inches past the hairline.
Paintable yes pls
Doesn't need to be bendable but can be

Mhm! I haven't done this, but you can apparently make a scaffold out of wireform mesh, alum. foil, cardboard, etc.
Then put polymer clay over it (glue to cardboard), shape it, and bake it. Then you can glaze, sand, and paint the clay.
