We managed to figure out violence against other humans is bad and now protest war and stuff, but I don't think we've figured out that violence of ideas is bad too, and in this war all sides happily participate in destruction.
As in, we view those who disagree as morally corrupt (and thus deserving). Our conversations are attacks, with the goal of performing aggression instead of trying to understand. We are comfortable with launching insults and gotchas, because the enemy is less than human
I started an essay on this which I’ve yet to finish about the myriad uses of English beyond conversation and how most of these hide as conversation because of a failure to distinguish between the purposes of speech when all words are most-easily interpreted as conversation.
