“I don’t know any woman who genuinely wants to receive a ‘compliment’ from a stranger when she is on her way to work, carrying her groceries, out for a run or minding her own business on an elevator.” 21July Ask Amy column, not yet online. Are you M/F, & do you know such a woman?

Say more? I like it rarely. If I feel safe and the compliment resonates with how I'm trying to present, it can be alright. Generally I find it annoying / distracting / threatening.

Catcalls almost never make me feel unsafe, probably because they happen when other people are around, and I'm not worried about getting attacked around other people. I usually get catcalled more the more attractive I'm trying to be, so I view it as a sign I did it well.

I will keep this in mind if I see you on the street. (But I still won't do it because it feels gross.)
