As yall probably know, I was homeschooled from birth to the end of 'high school', and cut off from most secular culture - except for 3 months, when I attended public school at the age of 14, and ran into a lot of public school norms that shocked and confused me (cont).

Not totally sure - I think my social skills turned out pretty well, but the disconnect in culture made it hard. For example, I couldn't pick up on pop culture references or a lot of slang, which made interacting with other people awkward pretty often.

I often think of it in these terms yes. I felt like an immigrant inside America, which is hard to communicate to people because there's no pre-existing ideas about that being a real thing. How can you be like an immigrant when you were born here?
