      while people from Seattle might legitimately be less racist and see it less in their own lives. But when on the internet, we often interpret the other person's beliefs under the assumption they have the same basic experiences as we do; as in, Seattle people might view

      people from Atlanta as overly whiny - because that *is* how Seattleites would be if they acted like Atlanta people did, given the conditions in Seattle. There's just failure to consider the differences in basic conditions; if we did, everyone might seem a bit more reasonable.

          Yup. I started an essay on this which I didn’t finish on how people of different regions use the same words differently, to describe different experiences in ways which might appear familiar, so everyone is ostensibly speaking English, but cannot communicate.

          Yes. The way I conceptualize this for myself is to ask "does this person mean what I would mean if I were saying/acting like this?" They almost never do.

          I realized something similar to this when I considered how schooling quality from different regions can vastly differ and that my own experience does not apply across the board.
