There is actually a serious point of view that consciousness (specifically the phenomenological aspect) is fundamental. Like electromagnetism. Most neuroscientists would dismiss that view tho. 🤷♂️

I can doubt that brains exist (matrix, dream, Virtual Reality, simulation, etc), but I cannot doubt that consciousness exists.

So long as we don’t take an anthropocentric view of what consciousness is, there can be little doubt that a brain is not required for it.

I think there should be a third alternative: simultaneous—if you are limiting yourself to human and animal consciousness. Another consciousness preceded both brain and (animal) consciousness.

I went consciousness. A loose nervous system with no central hub along with other systems of digestion, circulation, structural, reproductive, sensory etc. Would have consciousness of a sort.. it must have??
