natural human response...that you’re aware of it is paramount

If she was totally aware she wouldn't have tweeted. Being totally aware leads to understanding which is an action in itself.

What if you isolated yourself from both out-group and in-group sources of information in times where you feel like you are especially prone to this? I suspect the privacy of one's own mind isn't worse an echo chamber than those on the internet.

With the massive flow of misinformation, I wouldn’t blame one for avoiding information after a some time.

Try reading what the outgroup outlets are saying about the terrible things your ingroup is doing. Not just once, but over a period of time. Try following one election cycle only through outgroup media. Try figuring out who the smart outgroup ppl are & listen to them.

Twitter gets to everyone. Watch people come on nice, being funny, wondering why everyone's so upset, then end up posting an opinion and getting attacked, again, again, then start to sour over time, ... because people really have become mean beyond belief. Except us, of course.

From my last info-fast: I find that information that’s really important will find its way to you via your friends etc
-
Agree. The current events info you simply can’t ignore if you have a particular subset of friends. Having an immediate reaction to something that ~just~ happened is far less valuable or important than being up to date on macro news and changes over the months and years.

I’m not sure if avoiding news fosters ignorance; much of it is trivial and only skims the surface. I think we can remain informed, perhaps even develop greater understanding, through reading and/or podcasts and talking with those whose perspective & opinions we value.
