Homeless people make me feel kinda pro-slum. Like, if you've got a bunch of people who can't afford/function in normal housing and are sleeping in tents on the sidewalk, then we shouldn't let normal housing codes stop them from slapping together a shack somewhere.

The main cause of homelessness is the “swim or sink” mentality of our society, not a few housing regulations, most of whose are actually useful.

If you look internationally the main thing homelessness is correlated with are things like building codes, restrictive zoning and no minimum sizes. Why does Hong Kong have such low homeless even as expensive as it is? Cage homes.

The status quo certainly isn't working but the solution to people sleeping on the street shouldn't be substandard housing. This is part of what enabled the ghost ship fire
