Homeless people make me feel kinda pro-slum. Like, if you've got a bunch of people who can't afford/function in normal housing and are sleeping in tents on the sidewalk, then we shouldn't let normal housing codes stop them from slapping together a shack somewhere.

Sure, but I like solutions that cure the cause instead of treating the symptoms. High barriers to owning/living in homes is one of the causes of homelessness - there's a lot of regulation around what can be 'lived in' - some people qualify, and the people who don't sleep outside.

If you look internationally the main thing homelessness is correlated with are things like building codes, restrictive zoning and no minimum sizes. Why does Hong Kong have such low homeless even as expensive as it is? Cage homes.
