Most trans people I know were assigned male at birth, and most nonbinary people I know were assigned female at birth. Is this a thing, and if so, why?

I considered myself a transmale from age 16-19 but gave up on actual transitioning bc the science is nowhere near close enough to shape me into the man I would want to be. I go by genderqueer/NB because it's easier than explaining the above. Not sure if this is true for others?

I suspect that is a general tendency, but it’s tougher to evaluate how likely. Gosh, I wish we had some empirical studies on this at hand.
