If these drugs were not part of a prescribed therapy on taken correctly then this 20 y/o is culpable. Otherwise the act of taking the drugs caused the subsequent event. Sine qua non causation, you have proximate causation as well due to the foreseeability of the act.

Sure, but depending on whether or not he knew the drugs would render him completely incoherent, his sentence should change. Even if he knew he would be completely , he had no bodily autonomy, and thus basically didn’t do the deed. It’s like if someone in a coma killed someone.

Person makes a horrible decision in over powering someone else. Simply being under the influence of a substance shouldn't lead to a longer punishment than already stated. Nor should it excuse his actions in any way.

Did he know about the hallucinatory/intenseness of the drugs? Or was it like a medical trial and he wasn't aware of the side effects?
