A perhaps more plausible version is that when women vary in whether they really like the officially disapproved behavior or not, that rewards men who can more precisely tell which women like what.

ok hold up I do think shittests are a legitimate thing. I didn't think that I did shittests but after learning about them I realized I'd subconsciously been doing them to interested men *all the time.*

I think that's absurd to claim at a socio-biological level, but there are similarities to it at an individual psychological level: using sarcasm/dark humor as a test of how serious a person takes themself, if they appreciate your particular attitude.
