It’s desperation that calls people to make irrational and illogical decisions like this. Adopting beliefs is easier than coming to a rational understanding because we are a country built on guilt and shame.

Kinda but also kinda not? I'm pointing out how they are similar - both radical progressive ideology and calvinism teaches that your basic nature is that of 'failure to meet the standard for holiness', which leads nicely into providing a 'solution' for your failures.
