The claim that this is really about controlling women's bodies is horseshit. It's a side effect, not the main goal. It's just super easy to take unflattering side effects and point at it and scream loudly THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED ALL ALONG, YOU VILLAINS
I am skeptical of the idea that there are pro-lifers who are sitting there thinking "Damn, women have too much agency, and we're going to fix that through taking away their abortions!". I think that taking away the agency is a secondary effect of other goals.

i don’t think everyone - especially those in power - is as pure and righteous as you think they are? Jim Bakker, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson for religious examples. and an entire Republican party willing to essentially commit treason to push their agenda for political examples.

only just realized, but abortion = felony = no voting. so, it’d be extremely naive to take any stance that doesn’t acknowledge power and control are a big motivation for pro-lifers, at least on the political level.

Reading into a more nuanced understanding of the pro life narrative doesnt make them look any better. "Against female autonomy" is more generous than getting deep into the actual character, morality and motivations involved.
