One of the strongest pieces of evidence that our culture sucks at thinking or empathy is the abortion debate. Pro-choicers constantly characterize pro-lifers as "not actually caring about babies, but just want to control the bodies of women" which is one of the stupidest things

Multiple things can be simultaneously true. Some people have been indoctrinated into a loose definition of baby. Some people cynically use this as a political wedge issue. Some people think rapists deserve to be dads. And too many of those people don't support poor mothers.

I think the vast majority are in the 'loose definition of baby' category. I agree with you on the rest - though I also think you can both be against mass slaughter of innocents and think poor mothers should 'buck up.'

I cannot model the men in power as "against the slaughter of innocents" when they consistently vote to harm innocents. Maybe my modeling engine is broken. I would absolutely love to be convinced that Republican Representatives care about anything but power.

I don't know wtf is going on with the tiny percentage of people in power - I'm talking more about the feelings of the general population. I suspect most people in power, regardless of right/left, tend to disproportionately care about power.

Well, when I characterize the fight as for the body autonomy of women, and those on the wrong side of the battle as being for the subjugation of women, I'm not referring to how the brainwashed masses would characterize themselves.
