It's not really an honest choice. No one can go back,and the issues today are so much more complicated than they seem from the point of view of someone who isn't in the bottom 10% and who has safety net options. those in the bottom 10% would never choose it over something better
10% of the world's populaton live on less than $1.90/day. I don't know how that breaks by rural/urban: I guess the threshold for urban populations might be a little higher, like $2.50/day 1/2
Ask the same question in 100 years when the oceans have overrun all our coastal lands and people in warmer climates can no longer grow crops due to global warming. At some point, the dedication to almighty progress makes the scifi dystopia a reality.
Bottom 10% folks on 1st world countries today are still richer than the vast majority of the truly destitute 3rd world. Pretty much anyone who lives in a rich, capitalist, 1st world country lives better than anybody at all from 1530 or before.
Live the life of a king back in the days with a shorter life expectancy or being a modern slave covered in debts with maybe a slightly longer life experiency?
Hell yeah let me live like a king!
