I'm in favor of it, yet IQ is mainly a party trick number. If you're not raised in a nurturing, expansive, intellectually positive environment, that high IQ won't matter.

I'm pretty sure it matters, just it's not the only thing that matters. If Bob and Joe are both raised in shitty, terrifying environments, Bob with a 135 IQ is still gonna have better average outcomes than Joe with a 90 IQ.

Disagree. Intellect helps, but many external factors can easily derail brilliant minds. EQ is just as important as IQ, I'm discovering, especially in this age of automation and instant gratification.

I'm not saying external factors can't derail brilliant minds. I'm saying on average, with all else being equal, we can expect to see people with higher IQ having better outcomes in life. I'm not making any comments on specifics.

It's like, I can say you're more likely to die in a car crash if you're not wearing a seatbelt. You can say hey, no - external factors can easily protect people, like if the car's going slowly. And you're not wrong, but like, I'm still gonna wear a seatbelt dude
