I’d say everyone deserves the opportunity for respect, but one can show they don’t deserve it.

Respect isn't a binary, it's a scale. Everyone deserves the respect necessary to not be needlessly slaughtered. Few deserve the respect necessary for their thoughts on all topics to be highly valuable. Most people fall somewhere in the middle.
