Apparently they have a policy, which at no point did they make me aware of, that if you miss the first leg of the flight (which I did because of a family emergency), they just cancel your return ticket. Doesn't seen like @united has the customer's interest at heart.

It really strikes me that they deliberately have this quietly held policy in order to extract as much money as possible from their customers. I don't feel cared about and I don't feel like I can trust them. I'm down 470 bucks without possibility of refund.
