I think I have recurring lowkey sorrow that Antarctica is covered in ice. It's got the potential to be such a beautiful entire little continent/archipelago thing, but instead it's serving a super long term in ice jail.

You may get your wish re: archipelago--there's a hypothesis that the huge disparity in E vs W Antarctic warming is due to volcanic activity in the Ant. Peninsula (which is a volcanic island arc).

I've seen The Thing (1982, by John Carpenter). Antarctica didn't turn out to be a great place to work, for those guys... LOL. If you're even a little squeamish, it's a hard movie to watch... but it's a classic of horror.
