I think I have some sort of subconscious belief that humans have been getting smarter throughout history - better at recognizing abstract patterns in general and holding more complicated strategies in their head. Is this a real thing?

I mean like recognizable improvements over the course of recorded history - as in, given the same knowledge and tools, a good leader today would do better than a good leader in ancient Persia or something.

yeah at one point most people thought it was flat and thought sicknesses were due to 'bad air' and medical science operated off the four humors sooooooo
