Ok how in the ever living fuck does a new moon work? It's supposed to be when the moon is between the earth and the sun, but then now does a new moon happen in the night sky??? Someone please help me

You were close but had it backwards. New moon is when the Earth is between the moon and the sun, and it casts its shadow on the moon.

I think: When it's truly a new moon, you see nothing, so you DON'T see it in the night sky, but when it's a sliver of a crescent moon, you only see that in the morning or evening. As it gets closer to a full moon, you're mostly seeing it at night.

You shouldn't be able to view a new moon at night, though a small portion should be visible during sunrise and sunset
