Imagine a circle, with a little spinner on it that is going round and round at a steady pace.
Now imagine the spinner slows down naturally until it stops.
Now imagine the spinner increasing in speed until it's so fast you can't see it.

I could equally imagine the spinner slowing down or speeding up, but I couldn't imagine the shift from very slow to stopping, whereas I could imagine the shift from extremely fast to so fast that I couldn't see it.
