One of the best conversations I've ever had near the start of a relationship was where we listed all the ways in which the other person failed to fulfill our needs. It gave us both realistic expectations of each other and more compassion when seeking fulfillment elsewhere.

I can’t offer any experience-based knowledge since I have never done this. I have issues with the fantasy-based romantic ideals that many bring into relationships, but my approach was just to be real, open and honest from the jump. All sorts of ways to approach it.
