Why is it that public seating never has lower back support? Whenever I get on planes I stuff a jacket behind me and it improves the sitting experience so much, I wonder why humane seating isn't the norm
Because it reduces knee space and then they have to report more embarrassing seat dimensions?

It wouldn't actually reduce knee space, though. My lower back moves forward, but does that of the person in front of me. Space is conserved. (Maybe you'd lose a little bit.) But I did check the first-class seats, which also had straight backs.

Also I asked the pilot to check out his chair in the cockpit, and it had a straight back as well. But he was happy with it. He said that Airbuses have comfortable seats, but Boeings don't.
