It bothers me a bit when people take historical pieces and then shove progressive ideology into them. It seems to cheapen it, somehow? I wanna see heroes we're supposed to sympathize with, actively support the norms at the time, and likewise struggle under those burdens.

to clarify: in this case I don't view progressive ideology (women can vote and stuff) as bad, I just view it as cheap/preachy when forced into a character that definitely wouldn't have believed those things given the norms of the time.
