This is easy because the rest of the world (aside from Russia) would NOT pick Trump in 2020
Popular vote elected Clinton, so it depends on whether we use electoral college or popular vote. Yes if it's popular vote, no if it's electoral college.

My instinct is that this is an obvious yes. America instantaneously impingement democracy across the globe and they in turn give America its most progressive regime to date. Am I off?

People should have a voice in who their leaders are...that's a horrendous idea.
We are almost at civil war in the US with our current politicians, no need to bring on world war III
seeing what a piss poor job we did electing a president we shouldn't be electing anybody.
Wide parts of some cultures are not educated enough or used to electing/democraty. It would take some years to educate the people to make a real choice. But then I would definitely press it!
If that happened, the first thing I'd do is vote for people who promised to undo that system.
