Not completely cut contact, but made the absolute minimum. For years.

after my mother died (I was 22), no one left in my family (much older brothers, aunts, uncles, etc) was present for me; just left me lost, alone, orphaned, sad, terrified. I had no idea how to be wholly on my own and they knew that. I saw no reason to include them in my future.

if I couldn't count on my relatives to be there for me in my most difficult time, were they really family/ worthy of being treated as such? It was evident the relationships were toxic and not worth clinging to; better to be alone than invested in the loveless because common blood

I did not cut contact. But then again, I do not usually speak to people who are not around me much. I tend to speak with people who are co-located with me more than long-distance contacts.

Uncle stole money from my dying grandparents, and then pretended not to have anything to help with their funeral. Haven’t spoken since.
