If someone says they've escaped communism, they've most likely escaped totalitarian regimes operating falsely under the name of communism. Cuba? Never communist. The U.S.S.R.? Same deal. The Soviets were communists like the Nazis were socialists. (They weren't.)

When people in the US talk about hating capitalism, they probably mean they don't like the concentrated power held by corporations. Communism in practice has never fixed this problem, but instead has concentrated power further to the State.
