Being president is higher status than being a janitor, even though both are occupations that those people chose. Jobs are viewed a certain way by society, regardless of the dignity or freedom of the people inside those jobs.

I'd argue that a hooker is lower status than a pornstar regardless of the legality. A pornstar is paid thousands of dollars per movie to fuck another pornstar, who is usually a good-looking, high-status man who is good at his job. A hooker fucks any random guy for $100 per hour.

I'm curious about this; I wonder if we tend to see high-budget porn stars more (their videos are promoted!) but see high-budget escorts less (they're not on street corners). I'd bet the average income/hr of escorts is higher than porn actresses.
