Unsure if relevant, but at least once I got catcalled while walking with a male friend, and he didn't notice. It might be just our brains automatically filter out stranger interactions that aren't targeted at us?
It’s highly likely that I was oblivious. Maybe there is an evolutionary reason for this. For instance, if a male can signal his interest to a female who’s with another male, it’s beneficial for his chances of survival if that male doesn’t notice.
