Most Effective Altruism mentalities I've seen focus entirely on the latter - changing the situation to be better for people. I have a desire to bring the former back into discussion - how can we help people become more satisfied with their current situations?

I agree; I'm generally interested in the path of least resistance, not about sticking to ideas about morality, nature, or "strength of character".
