Stacey Abrams gave a masterclass on this in her primary victory speech. It was moving and personal, but also universal and tied into a concrete policy proposal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMxcwqmvTBg … (anecdote starts at 10:55)

Everyone I know who works in politics took notes when that happened. She's a remarkable leader. I can't wait to see her next move.

Ady, You are the one who made it personal to me. When people speak of how the USA became a nation of universal healthcare, they will not be studying politicians. They will be studying you and your legacy. Thank you and love to you & your family. You live in my heart.

Storytelling is the most effective form of framing advocacy, whether you’re then-lawyer (now Chief Justice) John Roberts or
@ewarren. The human mind thrives in stories.Thanks. Twitter will use this info to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Dr. King used the same strategy in his Letter from Birmingham Jail. It's about fostering empathy. It's why he repeats "when you have" so many times & concludes the sentence with "then you will understand why we find it difficult to wait." Stories reveal our shared humanity.

We also humanize it with amazing courage like you’ve shown. Your story is very one of them.

A prof of mine would tell stories to illustrate concepts bc you remember them that way. And see how they work. It's time honoured.

Storytelling is a Superpower! At best, it mixes facts with narrative. With empathy. People without empathy can't see it. They are empathy blind.

Yes! It works because it connects to who we are - our most deeply held beliefs: our Values. Our brains are wired to link these stories to our own experiences and in doing so - it makes it real to us and makes us believe!

What about the baby W showed to convince people to eschew stem cell research? What about the story of Kathryn Steinle? These were also "humanizing" stories, that allowed you to see how things affected individuals and not just statistics. /1

My point is this: everyone is for "humanizing" the policies *they like.* But if you do advocate for humanizing policies you like, you can't complain when your opponents do the same with their policies.
