Possibly Adventure, depending on where you draw the line between "fan game" and "genre".
I don't think we can count Adventure though there were a few iterations of the game itself. But just how many Mario or Sonic games are there supposed to be? Jet Set Willy has more than 100 mostly using the game engine itself. A quick estimate of Dizzy games gives more than 270.
