No, I haven't used Inform, but a sort of specific language called AWS that is very simple and is translated to pure C code by a tool I wrote: https://github.com/DarwinNE/aws2c I write the code in a simple text editor. AWS is strongly inspired by the Graphic Adventure Creator BTW.

They weren't; I think he uses C and then compilers like cc65 to target multiple platforms.
