Cheddar Gorge is also awesome because it's home to a population of Soay sheep! But re skin color: olive skin and light eyes persisted as a phenotype thanks to Cheddar Man's people. https://amp.theguardian.com/science/2018/feb/07/first-modern-britons-dark-black-skin-cheddar-man-dna-analysis-reveals?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other&__twitter_impression=true …

Invasion lit in Ireland references, oh, I forget which population as being small and dark. The Bendith y Mamau of Welsh folktales, also small and dark.

And then you have people like my grandfather, whose family came from western Britain, who were dark haired, dark(Er) skinned (for white people), and had light eyes.

The popular explanation for the "black Irish" phenotype is sailors from the Spanish Armada, but genetic research discredited that - they're remnants of the dark skinned, dark haired, light eyed inhabitants of Britain and Ireland represented by Cheddar Man.

I don't remember - @AdmiralHip may know if the Tuatha were the small dark folks, or someone else.

Ah no, I don’t believe the Black Irish were ever equated with the Tuatha De Danann. The Gaels were said to have come from Spain though. The “Milesians”, descended from Mil Espaine, Soldier of Spain

But there was a genetic study done that showed the DNA of the “Gaels” was no different than the previous population which indicates there was no mass invasion of Celtic speaking peoples.

Rather it was a movement of cultural change and adaptation.

Although regarding the last two tweets, I might be incorrect on that, looking at the articles now.
