I like him as much as the next early medievalist but to hold him up as an arbiter of what REALLY happened in early medieval England is pretty useless and yet, so common in Anglo-Saxon studies even today.

Well actually I think there is a lot of validity for using Tacitus (with reservations of course) in AS and Germanic studies.
