For Remembrance Day, I will say this. I recently found my great-grandfather's papers for when he signed up for WWI. He was American, but moved to Canada with his family and joined the Canadian army. He met my great-grandmother abroad, and she moved back with him to Canada.
In WWII, he was a mechanic who worked on tanks and cars in England, IIRC. My grandma said that she and her family all slept in one bed waiting for the day when he would come home.

And he did come home. My grandma told me that he was never really there after that, even though he was. As far as I know, he never talked about his experiences. But veterans deserve to be heard when they do speak.
