Actually, statistically speaking women aged 18-35 make up a large portion of the gaming audience. Those are stats found easily online.
Example: I am not a big shooter fan, but I've been watching a Wolfenstein playthrough and now I am planning on buying it because it caters to stuff I enjoy in games.

My point is that if games market to a wider audience then they will draw in that wider audience. There is something to be said about targeting certain populations, but to focus on one is silly.
