But the idea that promoting diversity is forcing it is a flawed understanding of the situation. Nor is it only said by Polygon.
So if you only produce and market games to men, then that is statistically going to be the population of who plays it. But games that tend to market to a wider audience gains a wider audience.

It is a cyclical process. If games only represented women or marketed to women, then statistically women would dominate. But it wouldn't mean that men don't like video games or wouldn't play them if a game of a certain genre came out that catered to them.

Example: I am not a big shooter fan, but I've been watching a Wolfenstein playthrough and now I am planning on buying it because it caters to stuff I enjoy in games.
