My dad received the best care from our public health system, he was seen immediately and made a near full recovery.

He has to be on a ton of meds and get frequent tests done. But the doctors and nurses are shocked with how well he recovered in 6 months.

He has dropped both the water weight as well as actual body weight, he stopped drinking, and his heart function is almost at normal levels.

The moral of the story WOULD be to not ignore symptoms, and see a doctor. However, that may end up being unhelpful advice for my US friends.
