I'm glad I'm finding out now when he's young so I can get the tools I need to help him be happy and healthy.

I'm also glad that I can get him the support he needs for school (and home).

What I'm mentally prepping for though is the fight. Just getting him here, at an ADHD and possible autism diagnosis, took an entire year.

And I'm lucky! I had to fight tooth and fucking nail, hunt down clinics and therapists, stay on the school's ass, just to get here.

I know that in order to make sure my kid has what he needs from here on out, I can't let up. It's gonna be a constant battle.

What worries me most though is how he'll be received by society as a neuroatypical Black kid.

It's hard enough being a Black kid. Add autism and ADHD on top of that and holy hell do things get extra hard.

You don't want your kids to have a tough time at life. Unfortunately though, you can't always control what life throws at them.
