The most I ever disobeyed my parents before the age of 15 was refusing to go somewhere, and it was usually because I either felt sick or really did not want to go out of anxiety.

But I had friends who had loads of freedom, were home alone all the time, walked to school by themselves. It was annoying that I didn’t have that.

Thing is though, these were the days before any of us had cell phones so I do get my parents being freaked out if they couldn’t get a hold of me and vice versa. But I still feel like I was good to be on my own. These days every kid has a cell phone.

Awhile ago I saw a 5 year old with a Blackberry which was probably one of the funniest things I’ve seen but hey, he was clearly able to use it.
