Got an absolutely crushing job rejection today (non-academic). I know it happens but it is really awful to put in so much effort and time into an extensive interview process, company research, etc and get to the final round only to be told that I’m not the right fit.

Especially if the interviews were positive.

Once again stating how absolutely hostile this country is to non-EU students looking for work.

And it's even harder for those in the humanities. There are EXTREMELY few jobs that we can apply for that are eligible for work permits. Getting a leg into tech is extremely hard due to the stipulations of work permits (needing a degree in the job field under a certain salary).

But there are no jobs in my field. Even if I might be well-suited for a position I don't have some of the other skills (language, driver's license, etc).

I don't know a single person who managed to stay here with a job in the humanities that didn't ultimately get permission to stay because of marriage.

Why are there so few resources for people in my situation? Why is it so hard to find help?

The Irish immigration system is shockingly hostile for a country that likes to pat itself on the back for being tolerant and welcoming. Every time I have to interact with it I end up reconsidering the degree to which I want to stay.

It's also a really obvious flaw in building a 'knowledge economy' if you train a bunch of international students and then kick them out the moment they finish their education. It's a self inflicted brain drain..
