Got an absolutely crushing job rejection today (non-academic). I know it happens but it is really awful to put in so much effort and time into an extensive interview process, company research, etc and get to the final round only to be told that I’m not the right fit.

And it's even harder for those in the humanities. There are EXTREMELY few jobs that we can apply for that are eligible for work permits. Getting a leg into tech is extremely hard due to the stipulations of work permits (needing a degree in the job field under a certain salary).

But there are no jobs in my field. Even if I might be well-suited for a position I don't have some of the other skills (language, driver's license, etc).

I don't know a single person who managed to stay here with a job in the humanities that didn't ultimately get permission to stay because of marriage.
