And it's even harder for those in the humanities. There are EXTREMELY few jobs that we can apply for that are eligible for work permits. Getting a leg into tech is extremely hard due to the stipulations of work permits (needing a degree in the job field under a certain salary).

But there are no jobs in my field. Even if I might be well-suited for a position I don't have some of the other skills (language, driver's license, etc).

I don't know a single person who managed to stay here with a job in the humanities that didn't ultimately get permission to stay because of marriage.

Been there, done that. It sucks so hard, because by that point you’ve invested yourself. I also know, if they can’t see your value after that, the person who really makes the decisions wouldn’t have seen it once there. Good luck!
